Refuting anticommunist propaganda
US history is often interpreted in an extremely charitable light (fundamentally good, though flawed) while aspects of Communist states, in addition to being exaggerated, are treated as fundamental aspects of the system.
Ex: compare gulags to the US prison system
A fundamental theme: not only are aspects of communist states massively exaggerated, their equivalents in existing capitalist/imperialist states are far worse. And while in the former, less seemly aspects have a purpose in mind and can quickly be done away with/improved, in the latter, such aspects are far more fundamental.

The fact that Soviet collectivization 1928-1933 was effective and enabled the industrialization which ultimately defeated Hitler was widely understood at the time, as the 1943 Life Magazine issue on Stalin and the USSR openly acknowledged. https://t.co/ZoAuI682O0 pic.twitter.com/rHtAhlF7I7

No one denies the fact that the people of the Soviet Union experienced a famine from 1932 to 1933. Rather, we argue against the anti-communist conspiracy that claims that the famine was a deliberate policy aimed at suppressing the nationalist spirit of the Ukrainian people.
